The boys went to Camp Seton in Greenwich, CT on Sunday, November 22 and completed a combination of field observation and classroom work for the Bird Study merit badge. Camille Broderick, Greenwich Council, conducted the training assisted by Rich Donovan, Troop 228. The boys were split into two groups and observed 4-5 birds in the wild and wrote in their individual journals to record what they saw, when and where. They will be completing sightings for the required 20 birds over the winter as well as a group project TBD.
They all learned what it means to be a “citizen scientist” and how migration patterns and species are analyzed by using the data collected from these bird watching enthusiasts.
